Comcast Americas Childrens Holiday Parade Oakland California Now in its 11th year, the Comcast America's Children's Holiday Parade in Oakland has become Northern California's premier family event. The ooh's and ahh's of more than 100,000 spectators thrill the parade participants and provide a heartfelt warm-up for the arrival of Santa Claus in the parade's finale.

The award-winning parade features children's favorite cartoon and storybook stars appearing live or as giant helium balloons, joined by marching bands, colorful floats and specialty entries in a 90-minute parade through Downtown Oakland, California. Curious George. Bugs Bunny. Snoopy. Berenstain Bears. Bob McGrath of Sesame Street. Santa. Mention the names and watch the kids' eyes light up. Assemble them all into one parade, and open the festive holiday season with delight for children and the people who love them.

Marching bands in the parade are judged by the Northern California Band Association. The reviewing stand is located near the television broadcast area at 14th Street and Broadway. A sweepstakes award is presented to the overall best band, along with awards for the top three high school bands in the small and large divisions. Additional awards are presented to the best university/college band, best middle school band and best community/civic band.

America's Children's Holiday Parade is broadcast on PBS television affiliates across the United States and portions of Canada, and around the world on American Forces Network. The 2009 parade was available to more than 45 million households throughout North America, and many of the top markets in the U.S. including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. In the San Francisco Bay Area, the parade is broadcast more than a dozen times on six different stations including KTVU-FOX 2, KICU-IND, KQED-PBS, KTEH-PBS, Comcast Cable and Peralta TV. It is the single most televised event in the San Francisco Bay Area. A Webcast is provided by www.Peralta.tv.
