The Bands of America Grand National Championships is recognized as the premier marching band event in the nation. More than 90 bands from across
America participate, including some of the finest, most progressive bands in the activity today. The annual event also features exhibition
performances by outstanding college bands from across the country.
The 2011 field competition will feature 92 bands in preliminary competition on Thursday and Friday, with up to 36 bands advancing to semi-finals during the
day on Saturday. Twelve bands advance to finals on Saturday evening. Four college bands will perform in exhibition: Marian University on Wednesday evening at the IPS Tournament,
the Indiana University Marching Hundred on Friday evening, the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band on Saturday afternoon, and the Indiana State University Marching Sycamores on Saturday
evening. All performances take place in Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.
The Bands of America
Grand National Championships creates an aura of excellence that fosters healthy competition and student and professional
development, all in an atmosphere of celebration for the entire band program, students, teachers, parents and fans.
The event kicks off on Wednesday night with the Indianapolis Public Schools Marching Band Tournament, featuring eight local bands in competition. The event also includes an Expo of
more than 100 booths, the Student Leadership Workshop with Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, and other special events and clinics.
