The Bands of America Grand National Championships is recognized as the premier marching band event in the nation. Bands from across
America compete, including some of the finest, most progressive bands in the activity today. The annual event also features exhibition
performances by outstanding college bands from across the country. A total of 112 marching bands from 20 states are registered to perform during the 2016 event.
The 2016 field competition will feature 100 bands in preliminary competition on Thursday and Friday, with up to 36 bands advancing to semi-finals during the
day on Saturday. Twelve bands advance to finals on Saturday evening. Special exhibition groups scheduled to appear in 2016 include
the Marian University Marching Band, Ohio University Marching 110, University of North Alabama Pride of Dixie Marching Band and The Ohio State University Marching Band.
All performances take place in Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.
The event kicks off on Wednesday night with the Indianapolis Marching Band Tournament, featuring eight local bands in competition. The event also includes an Expo of
more than 100 booths, the Student Leadership Workshop with Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, and other special events and clinics.
