The Calgary Stampede holds one of the oldest parades in North America and gives marching bands the chance to perform in front of large, appreciative audiences. More than 350,000 spectators line the parade route
and thousands more watch the television broadcast in Canada and around the world. Perhaps best of all, the Calgary Stampede awards $34,000 in prize money to marching bands competing in the parade and the indoor showband event.
The Stampede is already billed as "The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth" and it promises to get even bigger and better as it builds toward its centennial in 2012.

2011 Calgary Stampede Parade Lineup
The Calgary Stampede is much more than a parade. It is a ten-day, city-wide event that provides many opportunities for marching bands to experience Calgary's unique brand of western hospitality.
The premier event for marching showbands is Showbands Live, an indoor competition held in the Pengrowth Saddledome which is the home of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames.
Showbands Live is adjudicated by an international panel of judges and also features guest performances from visiting professional bands as well as the Stampede's own Calgary Stampede Showband.
The Stampede organizing committee offers the following arrangements to ease the cost of travel for marching bands:
• Free gym style accommodation
• Free transportation to and from Stampede performance venues
• Breakfast performances which include a free meal for the band members
• Free admission to the Stampede for participating members to enjoy the entertainment on Stampede Park
• Inexpensive and wholesome meals during the band's stay
• Large amounts of prize money: $18,000 for the Calgary Stampede Parade and $16,000 for Showbands Live
• A personal Stampede Host who is available to assist with planning your visit to Calgary to make sure that it is both memorable and enjoyable.
