On June 6, 1944, the fate of the world changed when Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. The scales were tilted against the Axis for good and World War II was soon over. This is your opportunity to stand in the very spot where this pivotal battle was waged, remembering its importance to France and the world.
The 66th D-Day Anniversary Performance Tour honors the history and heroes of Normandy. Bands perform at the Omaha Beach Memorial and in one of the D-Day Anniversary parades. Educational visits include the Caen Peace Memorial and Arromanches D-Day Museum. In Paris, bands perform at Luxembourg Gardens, and visit the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Palace of Versailles and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Before departure, each participating band receives educational materials including the profile of a fallen soldier from their home state. On tour, students will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of that solder in the Normandy American Cemetery at Omaha Beach.
A band's visit to France for the D-Day Anniversary provides additional opportunities for performances and educational tours. Extensions of the itinerary could include:
• England (London and Portsmouth)
• Holland (Operation Market Garden in Arnhem)
• Belgium (Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne and Luxembourg)
