June 6, 1944 bears the weight of tremendous sacrifice and courage shown by the Allied Forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy; it marks the
date of young lives lost and the beginning of the long road to peace at the end of World War II. Just as music far exceeds the sum of its
rhythmic and tonal parts, this date, D-Day, marks much more than a past-tense event that exists only between the covers of textbooks. This
concert series is your opportunity to use music to awaken history. What better way to commemorate the 70th anniversary of this moment than to
make the swell of music heard above the memory of artillery fire on the very spot where this battle took place? This salute is a chance to wage
peace in the place of war.
Allowing music to enrich history and vice versa, this memorial concert series offers the opportunity to perform at the Omaha Beach Memorial and
to understand that site's events as they are situated in the rich cultural past of France. Through this unique lens, your experiences of
such other landmarks as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Chateau de Versailles, and the Louvre will reach meaning not available
to the everyday tourist.

Three nights in Normandy and three nights in Paris afford you the opportunity to lend your music to villages celebrating their liberation,
to perform in Paris, and to feed your wanderlust by seeing the best of France with opportunities to visit other European destinations as well!
A band's visit to France for the D-Day Anniversary provides additional opportunities for performances and educational tours. Extensions of the itinerary could include:
• England (London and Portsmouth)
• Holland (Operation Market Garden in Arnhem)
• Belgium (Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne and Luxembourg)
