Florida FMBC is excited about several changes being offered for 2004, including a new "Show Band" class as well as changes to the format of the championship event.Florida High School Bands who choose to participate qualify for Florida's FMBC State Championships by achieving a Superior or Distinction rating at one of nearly 30 Regional qualifying competitions held during September, October and early November in different parts of Florida.
The new "Show Band" class has been created to allow traditional bands the opportunity to compete with adjudication sheets designed specifically for their style of presentation. Many Regional Events will offer this new opportunity for participation. See the FMBC website at FloridaBandTournament.com for more information.
Classification sizes have been changed this year and are now defined as follows: 1A (1-30 winds), 2A (31-50 winds), 3A (51-70 winds), 4A (71-90 winds), 5A (91 winds and up).
At FMBC Championships the semi-finals/finals format has been renamed the State Class Championships and Tournament Finals. This year's FMBC Championships will utilize three competition sites instead of two sites as in previous years. Class 1A/2A will be at one site, 3A/4A will be at another, and a new third site will host the 5A/Show Band classes.
The top five scoring bands plus any non-top five Class Champion from each of the three sites will advance to the Tournament Finals. The Show Band champion will perform last in exhibition at the Tournament Finals.
FMBC hopes that participants will look to the fall as an expanded opportunity for recognition of their program's achievement. They hope to see you at some of their outstanding events!
