True "once in a lifetime" performance opportunities do not come along often. Yet that's precisely what is open to bands who will gather in
Hawaii for a mass band performance in conjunction with the Pearl Harbor 70th Anniversary commemoration.
The 70th Anniversary mass band performance will honor military personnel and will pay special tribute to Pearl Harbor survivor and military bugler Allen Bodenlos, who travels
from California to Hawaii twice each year at his own expense to pay his respects. Bodenlos has become a great friend to many people over the
past few years and he has shared his story with thousands of students who have visited the Hawaiian islands. Bodenlos used to joke by subtracting
a few years when asked his age, but now says, "I'm going to be 90, so who cares, I'm 90!" He notes that Pearl Harbor survivors are disappearing and
explains there were only 55 survivors at a recent ceremony.

Director Emeritus John Riggle of Kamehameha School and the Hawaii All-State Marching Band has agreed to help coordinate the local effort and
encourages you and your band members to join the event. The performance honoring military personnel who have served our country will include
a mass performance of the Star-Spangled Banner, America The Beautiful and the Armed Forces Salute.
Only once will there be a 70th Anniversary to one of our nation's gloomiest days, December 7th and the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Only once
will there be a 70th Anniversary Mass Band Performance at Pearl Harbor. Only once will we have an opportunity to honor our past, present and
future military personnel in this remarkable manner.
Bands traveling to Hawaii for the 70th Anniversary Pearl Harbor Mass Band can take advantage of many educational and recreational opportunities available on the islands, such as:
- USS Arizona Memorial Tour
- Performance at USS Battleship Missouri
- Barefoot Beach Catamaran Sailing
- Diamondhead Hiking
- Authentic Hawaiian Luau
