Parade includes marching bands from Australia, USA and Canada

CALGARY, Alberta (July 1, 2011) — The Calgary Stampede Parade is the most popular event of the ten-day Calgary Stampede celebration and annually draws more than 350,000 spectators to the parade route. Marching bands from around the world will compete for $18,000 in prize money in the 2011 parade which begins at 9:00 AM (Mountain) on Friday, July 8.

Calgary Stampede logo The 2.8-mile parade route begins at 6th Avenue and 3rd Street SE, then travels a rectangular route counter-clockwise through the city's downtown. There are two judging stands, both located within the first six blocks from the official start of the parade route. One stand is on the left side in front of the Calgary Police Service Building near 1st Street and 6th Ave SE. The other is at the VIP viewing stand on the right side between 2nd and 3rd Streets SW.

The Calgary Stampede Parade is shown live on CBC Television beginning at 9:30 AM (Mountain). The parade can also be viewed through a live stream at CBCSports.ca.

Organizers are already looking ahead to 2012 when the Calgary Stampede will celebrate its centennial and will host the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) Championship in conjunction with Stampede.
