Marching bands played an especially prominent role during the 100th Anniversary celebration of the Calgary Stampede. Because Calgary hosted the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB) World Championships in conjunction with the Centennial celebration,
this year's
Calgary Stampede Parade and Showbands Live indoor event drew a fantastic slate of bands from eight countries (Canada, United States, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan), including three U.S. states
(Minnesota, Wisconsin, California) and three Canadian provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario). At the Stampede Parade, Chien Kuo H.S. (Taipei City, Taiwan) was named best senior band and best overall band.
